About Laura Chesnik

Laura Chesnik has taught for 14 years and at all levels from K-12 to university. She has taught in Ontario as well as internationally. She is a host of the national podcast Education is a Right that covers matters related to education across Canada and internationally. She is the National Spokesperson on Education and Related Matters of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada (MLPC).

Laura was born and raised in Windsor. She graduated from the University of Windsor (Bachelor of Arts 2004) and the University of Ottawa (Bachelor of Education 2007). At U of W, Laura was elected by her peers Vice-President of University Affairs to the Students’ Alliance and Student Senator to the University’s Senate. For the last decade she has been an active member and local organizer in her union and a community activist for social justice and in defence of the rights of all.

She has extensive working experience during and since high school including at: St. Cyril’s Slovak Centre, Tim Hortons, on the assembly line at Chrysler, at Nemak’s aluminum castings plant, at Met hospital and in Chrysler’s call centre.

In high school, she was the top wrestler for her weight class in Southwestern Ontario. In university, she played on the varsity rugby team.

Laura is an active member of the Windsor Peace Coalition, has represented the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada in several federal elections in Windsor-Tecumseh and ran as an independent candidate in Windsor-Tecumseh in the 2018 Ontario election.

Laura is the mother of Zoya aged 10, Polina aged 8 and Inaya who just turned 7.
