Education Workers Speak in their Own Name

Education Workers Speak in their Own Name

On June 23, the day before Premier Ford named his cabinet, education workers represented by the Ontario School Boards Council of Unions presented the new government with their own demands for their wages and working conditions. Some 25,000 members of CUPE’s school board division from across Ontario signed the open letter to the government demanding proper funding for education that permits real wage increases for education workers in the face of inflation, as well as more education workers in schools.

The letters were signed at workplaces across the province and then delivered to MPPs offices and the legislature, reflecting the mobilization of education workers to stand up for their wages and working conditions, which are students’ learning conditions. They also reflect the demands of front-line workers for what is required post-pandemic by the working people.
