We Need a New Direction
The Ontario government, like successive governments have peddled the notion through the budget that the funding required to properly fund the services people need, like healthcare and education, is not possible because of the need to pay the debt and deficit. However, time after time working people’s experience shows the province always has money to dole out when it decides. There is money to give to all kinds of private interests, such as those in the electric battery/electric vehicle sector or the banks who demand tribute on the debt. Instead of reinvesting these funds back into the economy and the social programs people and businesses require, the government hands it over to private interests.
Year after year Ontario’s debt keeps growing, year after year funding for social programs does not keep up with inflation and yet year after year the government finds all sorts of ways to take the value the workers in Ontario produce to give it as “incentives” or “grants” or whatever other term they want to provide for donations to private interests, like this surplus, which is what makes the debt. It raises the necessity for the working people across the country to empower themselves to establish a different direction for the economy that serves them.
