“Teachers Have Your Back” – OECTA President Elect Speaks at Windsor Salt Picket Line
On May 31 Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) provincial President-Elect, René Jansen in de Wal, visited Windsor Salt’s picket line in Windsor, Ontario along with local leaders of OECTA where he was joined by other teacher affiliate union members who were also visiting the line. He was received by the Presidents of Unifor Locals 1959 and 240 as well as representatives of the unions bargaining committees and striking workers. Jansen in de Wal spoke to the workers expressing the full support of teachers for their fight and re-iterated the demand for the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan not invest in companies such as Stone Canyon which engage in strike-breaking activities and are inconsistent with what teachers value and care about.
